Summer Camp Jobs

Camp Kingsmont offers a perfect summer job for teachers, college students and others that want to make a meaningful difference in
young lives.
Our days are filled with sports and creative activities with an emphasis on participation, instruction and fun. The dedication and
maturity of our staff is critical to a positive outcome for the campers entrusted to us by their parents. Nutrition, education and
activities aimed at building camper’s confidence and self esteem are crucial to our success. We strive to maintain a family atmosphere
of support and nurturing conducive to changing the direction of camper’s lives.

While the work can be quite gratifying, it is also difficult. The hours are long and can be demanding, both physically
and emotionally. Staff are expected to adhere to the camper diet and to be solid role models for the campers. There is absolutely no
tolerance for non-prescription drugs or alcohol on campus.
Campers are divided by gender and age into divisions. Each division has a division leader and several counselors. We strive to maintain a camper
to (overall) staff ratio of four to one and a camper to counselor ratio of no greater than six to one. Counselors and division leaders are
to accompany all campers in their division at all times, during all activities. This means that staff sleeps in the same suites as their
campers and eat meals at the same tables as their campers.
A Typical Day at Camp
A typical day at camp starts with morning line up, breakfast and room clean up time. Three hour long activity periods are followed by lunch,
a rest hour and two more activity periods. Dinner at 6pm is followed by an all camp evening activity.
Every member of the staff is entitled to one day off each week. The day off starts at 6pm and ends at 8 pm the following evening.
Curfew is midnight every night except Saturday when
curfew is 1 am. Staff may leave campus on designated days after all of their campers are back at their dorm rooms following the evening
activity as long as at least one staff member is present in the dorm suites with the campers. In order to leave campus, staff must secure
prior approval of their division leader and sign out at the camp office.
In addition to division leaders and counselors, we need administrative staff for the office, instructors for a variety of sports,
lifeguards, several interns for nutrition, photography and marketing functions and health professionals. We are required to have a
registered nurse on campus at all times.
Staff Schedule
Campers are scheduled to arrive Sunday June 20, 2010 and depart Saturday August 14, 2010. All staff are to be on campus by 4pm on Tuesday
June 15 (Division Leaders June 12 by 4pm) to assist with camp set up and participate in staff orientation. Staff should complete all dismantle
and camp clean up activities by noon Tuesday August 17, 2010.
Rooms and meals will be provided for all staff from dinner June 15 thru breakfast August 17. All staff are responsible for transportation
to and from camp. Personal autos may be left on campus during the summer but must be registered with our office and Hampshire College campus
security.
