Our Team

The staff at Camp Kingsmont consists of four senior directors, several managers and instructors, eight division leaders and numerous counselors for the eight divisions such that the counselor to camper ratio never falls below six to one. In addition, we have a full time nurse on staff, a nutritionist, several nutrition interns, office admin staff and photography interns.

Meghan Roman
Camp Director

Meghan has been a camper and staff member at Camp Kingsmont for 12 years. Meghan has served in a variety of staff positions from counselor to Assistant Camp Director. Meghan holds a degree in Sociology from George Mason University and will receive a Masters in Elementary Education from Marymount University in May 2009 after which she will become a full time elementary teacher in Fairfax County, VA. Meghan has also struggled with her weight for many years. She has endured the ridicule of her peers despite participating and at times starring on soccer, baseball, basketball, field hockey and track teams. The summers at Camp Kingsmont provided Meghan with a network of friends to support her weight challenges and provided a safe nonjudgmental environment to permit her to recharge for the upcoming school years. She will tell you that camp saved her life. Camp not only encouraged significant weight loss but provided nutritional education and caring support. Today Meghan is the driving force behind Camp Kingsmont.

Sam Houghteling
Assistant Camp Director: Boys

When Sam Houghteling first came to Camp Kingsmont, he was a 13-year old camper with more than forty pounds to shed. Sam had undergone a leg lengthening procedure which had left him bedridden for over a year, with severely atrophied muscles. Worried about his ability to be active again, Sam read about Camp Kingsmont in the New York Times and convinced his parents to sign him aboard for four weeks. Sam made enormous progress his first summer, during which time he spent many hours rehabilitating his legs and changing his body. The camp experience gave Sam the confidence to continue training, and by the end of the 8th grade he was starting on his school’s baseball team. Each year Sam returned to camp his summer achievements were matched by his achievements at school. Further summers at Kingsmont lead to Sam becoming class President, a Princeton Peer Leader, and eventually one of the Captains of the Varsity Football team. Sam completed his BA in Political Science at CUNY Brooklyn College. During his time in school, and since graduation, he has worked for a Congressman, in a historical archive, as a legal assistant, and as an intern for the Brooklyn Cyclones, the single-a affiliate of the NY Mets. He recently has been living in San Francisco, CA, and working for a national green energy non profit. Along with his years as a camper, Sam spent three years as a counselor at Camp Kingsmont, and was the Boys Hill Director of Camp Empire Lake for two summers. He looks forward to being a part of the Kingsmont family again, and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Urban Planning and Public Policy.

Sadie Brumfield
Nutrition Director

Our nutrition program is headed by Sadie Brumfield. Sadie is a long time veteran of Camp Kingsmont and returns for her 11th summer. Sadie holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition from Manchester Metropolitan University in Manchester, England. While in college she conducted extensive research on overweight and obesity in children. Sadie’s senior dissertation focused on the role that family plays in achieving and maintaining healthy weight in adolescents. Sadie currently is employed full time as a wellness coach in Narberth, PA. providing group and individual nutrition education and counseling. This fall Sadie will begin a dietetic internship as a prerequisite for the registered dietician exam.

Sadie began her journey with the Kingsmont family in 1998 at the age of 12. “Camp Kingsmont truly changed my life and has had a profound effect on me, both as a child and as an adult. As an extremely overweight child (240 lbs at age 12), Kingsmont gave me and my family the tools and resources we needed in order to regain control of my health. Over the next 5 summers spent as a camper I would lose a total of 70 lbs and have been able to keep that weight off ever since. In addition to providing me with the education and resources I needed to lose weight, Kingsmont also provided an opportunity to learn valuable life lessons and create life long friendships. Kingsmont created a safe environment for me to grow, learn and experience new things without fear of being judged. It is because of my love for Kingsmont and my newfound healthy lifestyle that I decided to pursue a degree in nutrition.”

Daniel "Ginger Pits" Heisler
Activities Director

Danny spent his first year at Camp Kingsmont last summer in a variety of positions. This summer Danny will be charged with oversight of all activities including athletics, instruction and venue readiness. Danny attended The Ohio State University studying architecture and currently attends The Art Institute of Washington pursuing a degree in audio production. Danny will also head up our music program and conduct club activities in music and audio production.

‘My name is Danny Heisler. I am the Athletics Director at Camp Kingsmont. Growing up I was very involved in both sports and music. I participated in a wide variety of sports in youth and travel leagues, in high school and in college. I took years of piano and saxophone lessons and was a member of numerous bands and music groups in Cleveland. In high school I played on the varsity soccer, swimming and in-line hockey teams. After high school I went to The Ohio State University to study architecture but found I could not shake my passion for music. Today I am working toward my degree in audio production at The Art Institute of Washington and stay in shape with basketball and rigorous workouts. The list of benefits from playing sports and music is a long one. I believe they helped me to mature and develop both physically and mentally. I can not wait for next year and look forward to seeing you at Camp Kingsmont.’

LEAD INSTRUCTOR & DIVISION LEADERS

Josh Hood

Call me Josh Hood. I hail from North Andover, Massachusetts and have been involved in many sports all my life (including but not limited to basketball, baseball, football and wrestling). This being my third year at Camp, I’ve gained a lot of insight towards the trials and tribulations of camp life; and through all of this, I’ve established my “Creed D’three”: dedication, sacrifice, commitment. I integrate all three homogenously and harmoniously to dictate how I carry myself throughout the summer, and in life. I look forward to meeting, and reshaping, each camper that makes that first critical step into our camp, and in into our hearts.
