Accommodations

Most of Camp Kingsmont's activities take place on the 800 acre campus of Hampshire College. We annually contract with the Special Programs and Events office of Hampshire College for use of the college dorms, dining hall, athletic fields, pool and lecture halls.

Founded in 1958, the college currently has 1,350 undergraduates and a faculty of 115. Hampshire College is part of the five college consortium including Smith, Mount Holyoke and Amherst Colleges and the University of Massachusetts – Amherst. Hampshire College does not have classes over the summer which frees the campus for summer camps. The Hampshire College web site has a wealth of information about transportation, local attractions, dining and hotels.

Campers reside in multi-level college dorms with four or more bedrooms adjacent to shared bathrooms. Each suite of rooms shares a common area with limited kitchen facilities, which are often used for cooking classes conducted by our nutrition staff. Counselors, division leaders and other staff are assigned to each building and are responsible for the campers under their direct supervision. The vast majority of the rooms are shared to facilitate social development.

Meals are prepared by the Hampshire College dining service and served in the cafeteria. We have access to the pool and gymnasium complex, all athletic fields, the weight room at the Multi Sport Center and designated lecture rooms for nutrition, Connections and Expressions classes. We also have access to the arts and crafts pavilion, the library for computer time, the large lecture halls for all camp movies and talent shows. The Red Barn, located near the admissions office, provides a perfect venue for our weekly dances.

Hampshire College has full time, year-around 24 hour campus security. Uniformed officers are on site at all times and routinely patrol the campus. The college also has a US Post Office on campus. Full time maintenance crews keep the college facilities clean and the grass freshly mowed.
